Teacher Fashion Help?!

Ok....so being crazy busy, I'll make this quick.

I know I posted about a cute outfit I had the other day...so I feel like this might be hypocritical but I was panicking today about what I'll wear for student teaching.  That's dressing up.....EVERYDAY!!

Ahh, I'm trying to think of places I should shop to get some good deals of especially key pieces I can layer and make different looks with.

I knew this was coming, so I'm not sure why this just hit me today so I seriously need to kick it in gear if I want to have some clothes to wear.....so this is where you come in?

Where are the best places to look for decently cheap clothes that would be great for teaching??? I need to shop ASAP, thanks for all the help in advance!

Also....sidenote.........A Cupcake for the Teacher is having an awesome giveaway so you should head over to her blog and check it out!  1000 followers......that's crazy! :)

  2. I'm not super fashionable, but I find a lot at Kohl's on clearance in both juniors and womens. I also LOVE Dress Barn- some of their stuff looks a little 'older,' but I have found some terrific work clothes there that I love that don't look too old at all! My favorite things are their camisoles! I can adjust them as high as I need (to make sure that they don't become inappropriate when I bend down to talk to a kid) because they don't have one of those silly poor-fitting built-in bra deals. They hold up well, too, and I layer with them all the time! I have also found awesome light sweaters for layering at Old Navy.

Definitely invest in a few nice pairs of dress pants and khakis that are work appropriate (not too tight!), and then mix and match on top! Plainer tops can be dressed up a lot with a few basic pieces of jewelry, too.

The most important thing? Comfy shoes you can wear ALL day on your feet!

  3. I agree with luckeyfrog! Invest in a few nice pairs of dress pants and khakis. Solid color tops are great because you can always mix and match and layer. Lots of different necklaces can always change what an outfit looks like! Also, cardigans are great. I have them in every color imaginable and wear them all the time.

Forever 21, charlotte russe, h&m (although we don't have one ): ) are great spots!

    Have fun shopping :D

  4. i've bought clothes for subbing from kohls and tj max/marshalls. they also just opened a gap outlet near my house where i got dress pants for $10 and cardigans for $15. near my house, i also have some good thrift stores but those can be hit or miss - at the salvation army i have gotten shirts for $1 when its half priced day. there's also a super organized thrift store near me called unique (known in some places as value village) - where i can get dress shirts for $5 or less and dress pants for $7-$10. i would definitely suggest seeing if there are outlets near you - if so, check out the gap, ann taylor, loft.

just want to reiterate the comfy shoes sentiment. check out naturalizers or easy spirit - very comfy shoes.

  5. I LOVE outlets. JCrew has an online outlet store and Banana Republic has an awesome outlet if you live near an outlet mall! I rack up every time I go.

  6. I love Ross and Kohls to find nice teacher clothes at good prices. Just keep an eye out for pieces that you can mix and match to make new outfits. Shoes are definitely the most important part of your outfit. I have invested in Danskos because I can wear them all day and my feet do not hurt. They are pricey but well worth the money because they last!

  7. Your shopping trip is probably over but in case you go back... ;) Hollister has the cutest blazers! You can dress them up or down and they fit really nicely....
Hope you're happy with your new clothes!

  8. I'm always on the lookout for cheap "grown-up clothes," too. :) Lately, I've been in LOVE with the Gap and JCrew outlets. They don't sell the same clothes as their "non-outlet" counterpart, but they still have good stuff for much cheaper. My favorite is to hit up the outlets when they're having a sale and/or when I have a coupon. :) I sign up for mailing lists at my favorite stores so that I get coupons and advance notice of their sales. Other stores I like for cheaper clothes are Forever 21, Kohls, Maurices, Dots, and Target. Like the other ladies have already said, plain tops and cardigans are a must. I can make a strappy dress or tank school-appropriate by throwing a cardi over the top. I also wear a lot of bandeau bras -- they work like a cami to cover any cleavage, but they don't add the bulk of another shirt. Hands down, my best advice is to splurge on the shoes. You can go cheap on clothes and definitely on accessories, but never go cheap on your shoes! I've been investing in Born flats and sandals and Oulikai [sp?] flip flops lately, and I haven't regretted it yet!
