State Study

Since I'm moving to 4th grade I've had to do some major research (kindergarten is not quite the same ;) - the most memorable part of 4th grade in my state was learning state history and visiting the Capitol.  I was really excited that this was the first unit I created for 4th grade and one that I am really excited about.  It got me to review the material and standards we need to cover so I feel more prepared too! It nearly covers every state standard we have for learning about our state history and I looked at other state's standards as well to make sure it would fit.

The best part - this can be applied to ANY STATE! (yes you read that right!) All the printables and interactive notebook components are applicable to any state and would enhance learning in this social studies area!

Here are the pages:

These are great to work on and can easily be completed by students.  They reinforce skills and note taking that would coincide with learning about one's state history.

Ok....confession....I jumped on the interactive notebook bandwagon.  A little late you say, well in Kindergarten we have done much interactive notebooking besides these foldable versions with our sight words! They went over really well but I after making these for social studies I am obsessed.  I had so much fun cutting and filling them out.  The bright paper I think really makes a difference too and is so much fun espeically if you have to take notes.
It comes with 10 different foldable templates to learn about your state!

Some of the templates include:
  • Famous People from your state
  • Spinner to learn about people, climate, natural resources and more
  • agriculture, trade and industry in your state
  • State facts including state bird, nickname, flower, etc...
  • Motivation, Starting Point, and Hardships of Westward Expansion
+  MORE!

Spelling Battleship FREEBIE

Looking for a way to spice up your spelling routine this year? Look no further!

Just like the classic game print and fill in words then ask away.  So easy but I'm looking forward to using this game a couple different ways in my room next year.

Vocab words
spelling words
review words ....the possibilities are endless!

I tried it out playing with the hubby and we had quite the time.  It was fun to go back to an old favorite and we both agreed that it would be a great addition to spelling this year!

I made the board pretty big so most words would fit.  Make sure to agree on the list before you play.

What are you doing next year to spice up your spelling routine?

Mind Movers FREEBIE!

If you saw my Instagram you might have seen this picture from yesterday:

I'm so excited to share this FREEBIE with you! This has been a labor of love for me and I can't wait to implement all these ideas into the classroom next year.   You're probably wondering what this could be all about ... stick around you are about to find out!

After finding out I was moving up to 4th grade next year - my brain was going a million miles an hour trying to wrap my head around that grade level.  Not necessarily the material (although I need to heavily review that too - what is summer for?!)  but the maturity of the students.

From kindergarten they seem much older and definitely more independent.  After seeing some recent Passion Project/Genius Hour ideas I knew I wanted to start something like this in my room.  These ideas stemmed from that in the beginning. I wanted fun ways to engage my students and small time fillers that 4th Grade would like.

I started with these books I was rereading to see what ideas I could get and compiled my favorites into card form that I could easily use in class - and they are COLOR CODED!

Those books are great = I especially love The Laughing Classroom because of the unique ideas! Here's how the cards are organized:

5 Basic categories:

Pink - writing: fun, creative writing ideas for those silly days

Green - review games: Ways to review that are out of the ordinary drill and answer questions.  Unique ways to review material

Purple - class cooperation : ways to engage the class altogether.  working in unique ways that builds class rapport and quick activities for those few extra minutes.

Yellow - funny business : funny ideas in general to generate laughter and flex those brain muscles

Blue - creative thinking : Challenging ideas to really focus on divergent thinking.

Here are some card examples:

I'm so excited to have some engaging and unique ideas to try in my classroom and more importantly ways to promote creative thinking and laughter, I'm realizing those are slowly going away as you go through school.

This video if you haven't seen it, really hits home with me especially the divergent thinking parts - worth the 10 minutes!

Ok so now you are wondering - I want to see what these are all about! These are an exclusive Fan Freebie on Facebook! Make sure to like my page to get access.  Any of the pictures will take you to my FB page.

I would LOVE to hear if you find this useful!

June Currently

I know I have been a horrible blogger but end of the year and big changes (see below) have made blogging take a back seat.  I have so many ideas for next year - I can hopefully get lots finished and show you this summer!

I'm linking up with Farley to let you know what I have been up to :

I'm LOVING the time off for summer.  We had 3 weeks in between school and starting summer school (yep I signed up to teach) and boy has it been awesome!  What a relaxing time!

I'm THINKING and planning and analyzing and blog stalking all things 4th grade!!! Yep I'm moving up and couldn't be more excited!  You can see more about it here. I'm so type A and am already going through curriculum and planning my room.  So excited to move up to the older grades

I'm WANTING  a personal mover and packer because moving 2 states away is no fun.  I'm so glad we will be back home and closer to family but the moving and packing is not so fun.  Luckily we live in a small apartment and don't have too much - yet!  We just bought a house back home (Missouri) and close on it in June.

My bucket list is pretty short:

1.  moving and packing will be the biggest but I luckily get to head to Vegas for the TPT conference (who else is going?!) and it falls over my first wedding anniversary so we are spending some extra days enjoying the place!

I'm excited about my new classroom as well - definitely a sign that you are a teacher when you are creating away and can't wait to get in.

Here are just a few things I've made for my "big kids"
