Monday Made It and Pinterest Paintings

Being a sub and student teacher, I've been wanting to link up with Monday Made It for awhile but wasn't sure what to make since I don't have my own classroom (yet....)

Well I've decided to share my substitute teaching cards (for all the subs out there- holla!!)

I give these out to any teacher I sub for.  They are especially great because then the teachers, principals are more likely to remember you!  You can also give them out with your resume if you want.

I'll let you take a peek at mine so you can see what they look like.  I ordered them from Vistaprint for FREE just paying s/h - what a STEAL.  You get a ton!!

Cute little box- the cards come in

I included my name

Certified Substitute Teacher
Elementary Education (certification area)

address
phone number

email (be sure to include as many teachers are tech savvy and can email out days they want a sub in advance

I would love to hear what you think, even teachers who need subs.  What do you think of this idea? Would it be helpful? Anything you would add?

I'll show you quickly some of the paintings  I've been working on...totally unrelated to teaching but I thought they were cool nonetheless.

Let me know what you think!

Most of these were inspired from Pinterest in some way and I put my spin on them.

Popping paint balloons on a canvas. SO MUCH FUN! It gets everywhere, be sure to use washable paint.  I cannot describe how much fun it is!!

Centers and Cool Magic Trick

Ok....so life has been crazy (when is it not?!).  Random number generator picked 3~ so Katie you are the lucky winner. If you'll email me (my email is on the side) I'd be happy to send you the centers!

If you didn't win and still want them click the pic below to be taken to my TpT store and snatch them up!

So I'm still busy, busy, busy but I'll leave you with a cool magic trick that I didn't even know would work but looks awesome.  I'll try and create a FREEBIE to go with it tommorrow!

Materials:

test tube, baby food jar, cup
notecard
water
dropper

Fill vessel all the way to the top and even so it makes a bubble over the top
Place notecard over the top and press down gently.  When I see the outline of the top of the tube, FLIP!

IT SEALS IT! How cool!

I did it over the aquarium because it will fall eventually but it was pretty neat.

I look a little scared in this last one (it was the first time I tried it) it works great though!!! Holds for up to a min!

Remember to use a heavier paper which will help!  Make sure the top is completely covered!

Trust me the students are AMAZED!

Treasure Rocks Part II

If you want to know how to make our awesome Treasure Rocks from yesterday's recipe - click here.

Here's what they looked like before we cracked 'em:

All rock-like and ready to go.

My older class stayed and partnered up with someone from Pre-K to help with the rocks

They were excited to see them crack open what they made!  Ours didn't really break even when dropped, you had to crack them, which was even cooler! :)

I didn't get too many pictures because of all the excitement but we put little carnival prizes in and they LOVED THEM!

Its hard to see but here's a friend breaking one open with a BOUNCY BALL inside!

SQUOOSH ball thingy - It was easy to break the parts away - trust me

These would be great for younger children just to break open.  For older students it can be connected with fossils or dinosaurs!

So easy-peasy and so much FUN!  I'll try and add more pictures if I get some more!

Treasure Rocks(!)

I'm super excited about the Treasure Rocks my older students made for Pre-K! They are awesome and I know they are going to love them, but it had just been one of those mentally/emotionally exhausting days.  Anyone else have those days that go from excellent to barely getting by in a matter of a few hours?!

How does it happen?  Nothing truly awful happened and for that I'm thankful but I'm crashing and my mind is spinning and doesn't know what to make of everything.  Thank goodness tomorrow is another day!!

Okay so after listening to my rant, I'm sure you are ready for some scienc-y goodness!

So without further ado.........I bring you..........TREASURE ROCKS!
(They are as awesome as they sound)

Materials:

1 cup coffee grounds
1/2 cup salt
1/4 cup sand
1 cup flour
3/4 cup water
small trinkets/prizes (we used leftover carnival prizes)

Steps:

Mix all the ingredients together! If dough is too sticky add some extra flour.

Grab a ball of dough and put a prize inside and close it up!

Bake at 150 degrees for 2 hours (flipping at one hour)

You can let air dry for a couple days and then.....

YOU ARE READY TO CRACK THEM OPEN!

Check back soon for part II- cracking ours open!

I got my recipe here: http://www.playcreateexplore.com/2010/09/make-your-own-dinosaur-egg-or-treasure.html

I'm a Science Star FREEBIE

With science not getting much time devoted to it during a regular class schedule (at least in elementary) I think it is important that is gets recognition too!! I made these handy badges you could hole punch and laminate for students to wear when they do especially well in science.

These work wonders for younger kids and can be used in addition to other "Super Student" badges and such so that no one feels left out!

I use them for answers to tough questions, if students make a great hypothesis, did well on an experiment, etc....  the possibilities are really endless.
