Guided Reading group

Still recovering from yesterday's SUGAR COMA, (see previous post)....but in the meantime....

... I was observing and got to complete my first guided reading group today all by myself.  All the other teachers, are probably like whoop-de-do but I was ecstatic!  I got to fill out the notes on every student in the group and fill out the lesson before and listen to each student read!  I don't care how old you are or experienced you are as a teacher,  I do not think this will ever get old.

Guided Reading can be A LOT of paperwork and planning.  How do you keep up with it as a teacher?  Got any tricks because I'm telling ya, I'm all ears.

In other news....The gals at Primary Princesses are having a GIVEAWAY so go follow their blog and enter.  (especially if you are a crazy blog watcher like me)!

Sea Of Camouflage

Sea of Camouflage

This was an activity I did with our kindergarten group last year for camp.  It was one of my favorites!!! We were learning about camouflage and different animal adaptations all week.  Each kid got a fish to color and they got a chance to try and make their fish blend in with the background.  I could not believe how well they did!!! They worked really hard too!

Sorry about the bad picture quality, my camera is not the best.  After talking about camouflage and how it helps animals we did this activity.  Afterwards, we looked at some books and websites to find examples of camouflage.  I think it worked out great, because fish especially use camouflage!

I'm trying to think of great ideas for THIS SUMMER (crazy, how fast it will come),  especially any awesome experiments because those tend to be the kids' favorites.  I'm always looking for more ideas! My room is labeled the "Discovery" room so I can do anything relating to science, some crafts, pretty much any cool hands-on learning and I LOVE getting the opportunity to choose what we do, plus I get to try out lots of things for my future classroom!

Onto randomness from college: So this is what happens when you have way too much to get done and move into stressed eating.

the PEEPS-STUFFED CARS COOKIE is born!   YuM!  Yes that is a Peeps stuffed between 2 Cars sugar cookies!   If you've never tried it, well it's a once in a lifetime experience I must say!  It was delicious, definitely not nutritious but, hey, I'm in college and sugar cravings come in weird forms.  I was pretty proud of  my concoction actually...think the kids at camp would mind these? ;)

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

How do Teachers do it?

So today has been crazy busy with practicum and research and class and volunteering...and homework :(   Where does the time go?

So onto my events from the day:
1. Subbing- So I have these business card I hand out after subbing in a teacher's classroom.  I think they're cute and memorable (just to stick in a teacher's head) but I don't know what they actually think of them.  Are they annoying?  Just more paperwork? Or are they likable especially if they know we had a good day?  I would love to hear any feedback!
I made my cards at Vistaprint! I'm sure you have all heard of because they are FREE!!!! Well besides shipping but, hey, they have cute products and the shipping is not that bad.

2. Observing- In my classroom (a first grade class) the teacher wasn't feeling so well, which normally isn't too big of a deal but it makes me wonder, HOW DO TEACHERS DO IT? I mean I've been in plenty of classrooms but not as a full time job yet with no one else in there.  What do you do when you need emergency bathroom breaks or worse, get sick?  I just have never thought of this before!  It makes me really appreciate all the hard work and things teachers do for us.  So I'd love to hear from teachers how do you do it? Keep it all together everyday?

Wow- guess I have a lot of questions for teachers! I would love any advice you have to give!

3. Side note- I got hugs from the kids when leaving...IT WAS GREAT! They asked when I was going to be back.  It's the little things that make your day.

Off to finish up my oodles of homework...sad day for this student.

Whew...getting it going...

So I've been non-stop working on getting all the cool things on my blog just like all my other favorite blogs...but wow has this been some work.  For a person who has never heard of JavaScript before I feel like I'm a quick learner. I've found tons of great tutorials (don't you just love Google?) so I could create all the fun little things :)

Leave a comment telling me what you think!

Just the Beginning...:)

So to start off, I just everyone to know more about the blog!  First I'm an student studying to be a teacher and will student teach in August (it's so close!!!!), I substitute teach some right now and am learning A LOT from it, and I am also a discovery/science room teacher in the summer.  I love all three of those things and am so excited to graduate and finally become a teacher.

The name comes from my love of glitter, crafts, and of course, teaching!  I love being able to be a positive influence in a kid's life and seeing them learn a concept/light bulb moment...don't even get me started-it is an unbelievable feeling!

This blog is a mixture of all my experiences and hoping I can venture into the teacher blogging world successfully!  I'll be learning A LOT on the way but, hey, technology is not going anywhere so I best keep up.

Grab your preferred beverage, take a look around.  I hope you find something you like or you could even follow me on my crazy journey navigating through school, subbing, camp, etc... ;)
